EALL announced the establishment of The Eugene and Sook-Ki Moon Endowed Fellowship for Korean Literature that will support graduate students pursuing a Korean literature degree. The endowment represents one of the largest contributions ever to EALL. Department Chair Robert Huey says, “We are honored and grateful to receive such a generous gift from Mr. and Mrs. Moon. The Eugene and Sook-Ki Moon Endowed Fellowship for Korean Literature will do much to encourage students, while also promoting the study of Korean literature in higher education.”
Honoring Dr. Sohn
EALL sponsored a special colloquium honoring the retirement of Dr. Ho-min Sohn, who served as department chair from 1993–2000, and as the director for the Center for Korean Studies from 2004–2010. Dr. Sohn was instrumental in establishing the Korean program at UH Mānoa, and developing the field of Korean language study across the United States and in the world.
