Message from the Dean – Fall 2017

Aloha Friends and Alumni of the College of Languages, Linguistics & Literature,

It is my pleasure to begin this academic year by sharing with you some of the impressive achievements of our faculty and students. The news that we give you here is but a sample of the many recent accomplishments in LLL.

As a college whose educational mission focuses on “the power of the word” and language in all of its manifestations, LLL was delighted this past year to award 333 degrees from the BA and MA to the PhD across our six degree granting departments. Equally impressive and central to our work locally, nationally and internationally is the $2,243,734 in externally funded grants awarded to our faculty last year to conduct research and develop curricula and course materials.

As much as we want to keep you apprised of college news so that you can share it with others, we also hope to hear from you. I was thrilled to receive personal notes from many of you last fall, and I look forward to hearing from more of you this year. Please write to me at

Me ke aloha pumehana,
Laura E. Lyons
Interim Dean
