The College of Languages, Linguistics, and Literature (LLL) places the study of language and literature in its many manifestations at the center of its students’ education. Through small classes and close student-faculty interchange, the College prepares students for life-long learning in English studies, foreign and heritage languages and literatures, and applied and theoretical linguistics. While taking a global view of language, literature, and linguistics, LLL offers a special focus on Asia, the Pacific, and Hawai’i.
LLL faculty conduct research and produce scholarship according to the highest standards of inquiry and creativity in the liberal arts tradition. The range of faculty interests –from the analysis of language structure, acquisition, history, and use to the creation of teaching materials for familiar as well as less commonly taught languages, from the study of classic and contemporary texts of world literatures to the production of new literatures– reflects its commitment to innovation and excellence.
