Retranslating sex, race, and gender in 21st century France: From censorship to political (over-)correctness

As the last twenty years have witnessed a wave of retranslations of Anglo-American classics into French, prompting some critics to call the 21st century “the Age of Retranslation,” this talk will highlight, through five case studies, some of the issues at stake in the act of retranslation, questioning the shifting status and purpose of literary translation.
