The College of Languages, Linguistics & Literature is pleased to congratulate Rachel Mamiya Hernandez, the recipient of the 2017 Hawai‘i Association of Language Teachers (HALT)-Honolulu Star-Advertiser Excellence in Teaching Award (postsecondary level). The award recognizes the outstanding contributions and achievements of second language teachers in teaching and promoting Hawaiian and foreign languages in the State of Hawai‘i.
Rachel Mamiya Hernandez is an instructor of Portuguese, Spanish, and Latin American and Iberian Studies at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. She hold a BA in Latin American Studies, an MA in Second Language Studies with a concentration in Language Pedagogy, and is pursuing a PhD in Learning Design and Technology. Some of her interests include Portuguese and Spanish L2 acquisition and pedagogy, Project-based learning, Online Intercultural Exchanges, gamification, materials development, and instructional design. In her free time she enjoys practicing yoga, dancing, and spending time with her family and friends.
